Hand-poke, also called stick-and-poke, is the oldest way to make a tattoo. No electric machine, no buzzing motor — just a single needle, ink and the rhythm of the hand. Dot by dot, the image appears in the skin.
Gentler on the skin
Because the needle works more slowly and precisely than a machine, the skin takes less damage. Many people find it calmer and less abrasive, and the area usually heals a little faster and softer.
A different kind of line
Hand-poke gives a recognisably fine line and organic dotwork shading. No two dots are the same, and that is exactly what makes the work feel alive — it carries the hand of the person who set it.
